The specialty "General Medicine" was opened in 1967. The need for it was due to a significant shortage of medical personnel in the Chuvash Republic. There were 16 doctors per 10 thousand of the population of the republic (compared to 42-45 doctors at the time), in the countryside in 1965 and 1966 there were 5 doctors. The opening of the specialty "General Medicine" allowed to prepare doctors of various profiles: therapists, surgeons, obstetricians-gynecologists, neuropathologists, traumatologists, etc. The first department of normal anatomy with a course of general biology was opened, it consisted of Doctor of Medical Sciences V.V. Most of these doctors and professors were the founders of scientific schools and became the pride of the medical faculty and the institute. Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Ivanovsky and some other medical institutes assisted in equipping the medical faculty with teaching and laboratory equipment and textbooks.

The construction of theoretical, laboratory, morphological buildings were started, new departments and courses opened, staffing of various departments continued. Over the years of the dean of Professor V.V. Amosov's admission to the medical faculty increased to 150, the faculty increased to 150, the number of departments increased to 13. In June 1985, Professor V.E. Volkov, who was at that time deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He paid great attention to strengthening the material and technical base of the faculty, creating new departments, improving the quality of clinical training for graduates, and training medical personnel through clinical residency at leading clinical departments. With the direct participation of the dean and deputy V.E. Volkov's specialties were “Pediatrics” (evening and day time), “Dentistry”, “Higher Nursing”, as well as the Faculty of Advanced Medical Studies (branch of the Kazan State Medical Academy). The medical faculty became one of the leading faculties in the system of higher education of the USSR, which made it possible to transform the medical faculty in September 1994.

In the 1990s. On the basis of the medical faculty, a dissertation council on the protection of PhD theses in internal medicine, pathophysiology, histology, and cytology was created Only in 2000, 36 Ph.D. and doctoral theses were defended by employees of the medical institute and doctors of the Chuvash Republic. In the 1990s. In 1971, at the Department of Hospital Surgery, for students of the V course, studying in the specialty “General Medicine”, training sessions in dentistry were organized in the amount of 20 hours per study group. Training sessions in this discipline held a dentist GI. Arakelyan. In subsequent years, with the students of medical, and then pediatric faculties - Associate Professor FF Yegorov. A small amount of training hours suggested teaching only the basics of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.

The practical public health of the Chuvash Republic was constantly experiencing a shortage of dentists. Before the opening of the Faculty of Dentistry, there were only 2 dentists and 1 dentist per 10 thousand people in 1984.

In 1989, the course of dentistry at the Department of Hospital Surgery was transformed into the Department of Dentistry, headed by Professor F.S. Hamitov. At the Department of Dentistry, teaching of the main disciplines of the dental profile was conducted. The course of therapeutic dentistry was headed by Ph.D., associate professor A.Pavlov, and the course of prosthetic dentistry - associate professor F.F. Yegorov. After defending his doctoral dissertation in 1991, A.F. Pavlov headed the department of therapeutic dentistry. In 1994, the course and the department of dental specialty were transformed into a dental faculty as part of the Medical Institute of Chelyabinsk State University.

Since the opening of the “Medicine” specialty, 5265 doctors have been issued, who successfully work not only in the Chuvash Republic, but also in other regions of the Russian Federation, as well as in the CIS and in many foreign countries (USA, Germany, Israel, etc.). In 2007, the number of graduates in “General Medicine” was 162 people, of which 17 were foreign specialists from 8 countries (China, Nepal, Kenya, Sudan, etc.). At 19 departments of the medical faculty, the teaching staff has a degree of approximately 70%. The contingent of students at this faculty annually is more than 1,200 people. Training sessions are held on the basis of almost all medical institutions of Cheboksary, as well as on the basis of republican medical institutions (Republican Hospital No. 1, Republican Eye Hospital, Oncology Center, etc.).

Due to the significant shortage of dentists in Chuvashia's practical health care, the government of the republic and the university administration have been tasked to open a new specialty “Dentistry” at the medical faculty. The solution of this task was entrusted to the deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Professor V.Ye. Volkov, who carried out the necessary work on the project, and in 1985 the specialty "Dentistry" was opened with an annual admission of 25 people. The opening of this specialty required the construction of a new academic building. The building of the Republican dental clinic was built in a short time. At that time, the leaders of the republic, I.P. Prokopyev, N.I. Viktorov, R.I. Eruslanova, Minister of Health of the Czech Republic N.G. Grigoriev. The new clinical base was headed by the Minister of Health of the Czech Republic V.E. Mikhailova, who for many years has provided great assistance to the staff of the departments in the preparation of dental personnel.

In connection with the constant increase in the number of students in the dental faculty, it became necessary to expand the clinical base for the training of highly qualified specialists for practical healthcare.

During the period of existence of the specialty "Dentistry" on the basis of state standards of education and training programs, 18 issues of dentists were carried out, 922 dentists were trained for practical healthcare. Many of the graduates of the faculty are leading experts in various fields of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, as well as heads of medical institutions of the Chuvash Republic and other regions of the Russian Federation. It should be noted that foreign students who graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry (20 people) have confirmed the diploma of a dentist in their countries and successfully work in their home country.

In 1999, a new phantom class in therapeutic dentistry was opened, equipped with dummies, dental drills, dental instruments, and consumables. All second-year students, under the guidance of experienced teachers, study the methods of examining dental patients, obtain the necessary theoretical knowledge and reinforce practical skills through various manipulations: the preparation of carious cavities, dental treatment using various filling materials, endodontic techniques, etc. Only after a year of training in a phantom class, students of the dental faculty are trained directly in a clinical setting, in particular in a dental clinic, where they consolidate their knowledge in practice.

The main scientific directions of the departments of the Faculty of Dentistry are issues of traumatology and reconstructive surgery of the maxillofacial area, implantation for dental prosthetics, laser therapy of diseases of the teeth and oral mucosa, the development of new materials for dental prosthetics with improved medical and technical indicators.

Faculty members are actively involved in regional, Russian and international scientific conferences, symposia and congresses on dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.

Teaching staff of the Faculty of Dentistry in addition to scientific and pedagogical activities conducts a great deal of medical work at clinical bases: in major dental clinics in Cheboksary, two departments of maxillofacial surgery, the Department of Concomitant Trauma of the emergency hospital and the Department of the Republican Oncological Center. Teachers, residents and senior students go to the districts and cities of Chuvashia to inspect the population and identify dental diseases, supervise the school № 45 of Cheboksary, conducting prevention and treatment of dental caries in students.

In 1981, the first admission of students in the specialty "Pediatrics" was held at ChSU. 75 people were accepted: on full-time education - 50; Evening - 25. But for the first time, the need to train pediatricians was talked about earlier because of high rates of infant mortality and an acute shortage of qualified pediatric personnel. In 1975, a course of childhood diseases began training pediatricians from among students of the medical faculty who expressed a desire to acquire the specialty of a pediatrician, and a year later 10 graduates began working as pediatricians.

From 1988 to 1994, Professor V.E. worked as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine with a degree in Pediatrics. Sergeyeva. The deans of the pediatric faculty were associate professors A.A. Fedorov (1994-2000, 2002-2003), V.A. Rodionov (2000-2002). Since 2003, the dean is associate professor E.V. Bushueva.

Teaching is conducted in 33 departments, where the heads are doctors of science and professors; 36 Doctors of Medical Sciences, more than 70 assistant professors and over 60 Candidates of Medical Sciences work with students. The faculty has a graduate school in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, histology.

The practical training of future doctors begins with the second year, when students master the skills of caring for healthy and sick children as a nurse's assistant. At the end of the third year, a mandatory monthly practice of an assistant ambulance and emergency aid is conducted. Within five weeks after the IV course - medical practice in hospitals (for surgery, therapy, obstetrics and gynecology), after the V course - work as an assistant doctor of emergency and emergency care (outpatient practice).

From 1987 to the present, the training of clinical residents has been successfully carried out. In the specialty "Pediatrics" prepared more than 25 candidates of medical sciences, 1 doctor of medical sciences. The faculty cooperates with the Scientific Center of Children's Health, RAMS, Moscow Medical Academy, Moscow Research Institute of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, Kazan, Ivanovo, Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Universities and other universities of the country.

During training, students can realize their individual abilities in various medical activities: each department has student scientific circles, where under the guidance of teachers it is possible to conduct scientific work, deepening their knowledge and practical training. The faculty is actively working student scientific community. Faculty students systematically participate in various scientific conferences. The faculty has a computer class, students have access to the Internet.
